Coolbinia

2018 MBA winner Home of the Year
Most people haven't heard of this beautiful, secluded suburb. With only a small population of only 1660 and a size of only 1km2, Coolbinia is, in my opinion, one of Perth's best kept secrets.
Coolbinia is nestled in between North Perth and Menora/Mount Lawley and is only 5 kms from the city. It was originally designed according to garden suburb principles first devised by Ebenezer Howard, advocating the creation of green streets with low-density dwellings.
The area is characterised by large homes constructed from the 1930’s to the1960’s, interspersed with landscaped parks and a curved road layout with open grassed verges and mature trees.
Unlike it's neighbour Menora, Coolbinia's houses do not have heritage retention guidelines. This has allowed for new homes to be built on the full blocks this suburb boasts, showcasing some spectacular architecturally appealing homes. There is a distinct 'Palm Springs', mid century feel to the houses in Coolbinia, a characteristic that I am yet to discover anywhere else in Perth.
Coolbinia Primary School has been ranked the top Primary School in the area and consistently performs to the same levels as some to the most renowned private PSA schools found in the western suburbs area.
